Jane established Active Speech Pathology in 2014 working one day each week. It soon became apparent that the demand for her services was sufficient to allow her to resign from her full-time position in a private practice. Once this happened, Jane spent several years honing her skills and gaining knowledge as a sole practitioner.
When her son was born in 2018, Jane was faced with the decision to pause her practice or else find a therapist who could take on her caseload and continue providing services. It didn’t take long to decide on the later option. On return from maternity leave, Jane’s vision for the business shifted to become one of a team. And so it was that new team members were brought on board (not just to bolster the staff Christmas party numbers!)
At the same time, Jane also stepped back from managing a full caseload so that she could support her team and wear the many hats of a small business owner. Jane now spends her working days creating and updating business procedures, followed by a healthy dose of coaching and supporting her team members. Jane finds great fulfilment in running Active Speech Pathology because her impact is far-reaching. Jane’s leadership and expertise equips her team to support many clients and their families.
After pondering whether to be a teacher, a journalist or professional cellist, Jane found her way into speech therapy when she realised she could have a lasting impact on the lives of children and young people with challenges as varied as speech sound disorders, Developmental Language Disorder and Dyslexia. Speech Pathology also aligned well with Jane’s generous and compassionate nature.
When she’s not working, you can find Jane outside – running (trying to beat her Parkrun PB), swimming or bike riding – or inside, baking something to share with family and friends, reading or listening to a podcast and chasing her son to put his shoes on.
